WorkInFlow – A Bioss Affiliate Company – Australia and New Zealand
Case Study
Creating Value through Bioss Conditions Analytics
and Capability Mapping
The Client
A Co-operative Business and leader in the Australian grain industry, with operations that extend along the value chain.
The Challenge
In the context of increasing international competition, shrinking margins and technological advancement, the organisation was undertaking a restructure to support its continuous evolution, innovation and growth.
The newly appointed CEO had utilised the Bioss tools in a previous organisation, and requested the introduction of these tools into the company to support the restructure.
The Work
WorkInFlow supported the restructure by:
- Conducting a Talent Review of the Senior Leadership team utilising the Career Path Appreciation. The results were used to establish Capability Maps and identify where there may have been gaps.
- Providing in-house Matrix of Working Relationships Practitioner Accreditation Training and Custodian Accreditation Training, to empower the Senior People and Performance team to audit the effectiveness of the current structure and prepare position descriptions for the new structure benchmarked against The Matrix of Working Relationships.
- Providing in-house Custodian Accreditation Training to enable the Senior People and Performance team to turn work complexity and capability data into intelligence.
- Facilitating a workshop for the Senior Leadership team that focused on why the outcomes of the Career Path Appreciation process are potentially useful to the organisation and individuals, how the outcomes may be used, and what the applications may mean for individuals, teams, functions, operational businesses and business development.
Our consulting approach was underpinned by the Matrix of Working Relationships framework. Accreditation training was provided to the Senior People and Performance Team. A Workshop was presented to Leaders to raise awareness and embed the tools.
Benefits to the Client
- From a restructuring perspective, the Matrix of Working Relationships framework provided a lens through which to assess the effectiveness of the current structure, and the complexity of work required to enable the organisation to achieve its strategy.
- Capability maps were established to provide a better understanding of the leadership capability in the organisation and to give a clearer sense of the organisation’s current and future potential.
- At an organisational level, data analytics and insights gleaned from the application of the Bioss technologies were (and will be) used to facilitate decisions about talent (including recruitment, development, succession planning and the talent pipeline).
- Managers used the Development reports produced as a source of information to create development plans for individuals. They provided a level of depth to better understand how to support people who are transitioning from one level of work complexity to another.
- Feedback from the General Manager of People and Performance was that the accreditation training was a good coaching exercise in terms of maintaining the integrity of the Bioss tools deployed in the organisation, and that the training helped to secure a return on investment.
