Clare Mathias has a background in Human Resources, having worked as an HR Manager for a major oil company for many years. Married with three teenage daughters, she now runs a private polo team and organisation in Surrey in the UK.

She has been interested in philanthropy for a number of years and has recently completed the Philanthropy Workshop with the Institute for Philanthropy.

Four years ago, she set up a family trust to engage the children in philanthropy. The Hummingbird Trust focuses mainly on women’s issues in India, in particular working with communities in Calcutta that are vulnerable to child trafficking. They also support leadership initiatives and mental health issues and have recently been promoting a number of local UK community initiatives.
